Blue Orange Green Pink Purple

Life Spilled Open

a have a deep love for all things inspiring...space to create....art that moves me....and love

images of the week.

we took a wrong turn yesterday, after church.  we don't really like our church.  it's bland and old, so most sunday's we leave a little less than inspired.  but yesterday our wrong turn looked like this...and it was beautiful.  the ground littered with little purple flowers, and not just a few, but enough to turn the streets purple.  did i mention that i love the color purple? well i do.  and the trees were so lushious that the sky above them was more brilliant.  and the smell was divine. what a great little moment.
this little video made my morning.  not exactly my story at the moment...but it was, and wishes come true.  just like mr. walt disney is trying to tell us.  yeah for love.

there's a lot to be said about contentment.  finding the simplicity in life, learning to cherish the moments.  realizing the gift of being a teacher, a mentor, and watching a person fly.  i'm choosing the simple moments, the laughter, the songs that you can't help but dance too, the songs sung soulfully in a candlelit room.
so many little blessings to be aware of.
i stumbled upon this quote and love it.

your way begins on the other side become the sky take an axe to the prison wall, escape walk out like someone suddenly born into color do it now.    ~rumi ~

maybe because it feels a little like life now, and challenges me to create, to break down, and to become the sky.  what a great image.  i do like to feel like i'm flying.

and because everything is better in color, here's a couple of photos to take with you.

hawaii

this space is becoming a little journal in these last few days of life here in LA.  I just made coffee...i know should've gone for dinner, but I got a new kind that smells just like my life in kona, HI.  As soon as I took the first sip, memories flooded over me.
The first sight of the island, meeting my roommates.  Realizing my room was too good to be true-that if I choose a room out of a magazine, it couldn't have fit my time there more perfectly. Drinking coffee after a day at the beach, parked in the middle of the road, overlooking the entire kona coast, watching the sun dip into the ocean and screaming if we saw the green light.  Salsa dancing in the bathroom.  the hallways.  lying on the grass in front of my room with new friends. discovering the artist-mason jennings, and the feeling of a smile creeping over my face as i wore ginormous headphones and listened intently to the lyrics to "butterfly".
realizing i was created to create events, encourage artists and wear black. Morning rides to my hawaiian church.  no air conditioning, singing so free, usually this song.  all night dance parties in the commons.  hopping in simone's jeep with no top, and driving to the next undiscovered piece of sand.  smoking a cigar, sleeping on the sand, discovering random friends from around the world.

The curious case....

Along the way you bump into people who make a dent on your life. Some people get struck by lightning. Some are born to sit by a river. Some have an ear for music. Some are artists. Some swim the English Channel. Some know buttons. Some know Shakespeare. Some are mothers. And some people can dance.

For what it's worth: it's never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There's no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you're proud of. If you find that you're not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.

good morning...

It's been a long week.  We are making some big changes in our lives and trying to leave places, people and jobs behind is emotional and feels a bit like my heart is ripping out.
Last night I told my dancers I am leaving.  I got mixed reactions, from tears, to strikes but underneath it all I get it.  It's been a year- an emotional heart ripping year.  We discovered ourselves in dance.  We created ballets.  We danced till it hurt.  We cried when we lost our friend.  We cheered and gave a standing ovation at his funeral.  We realized the reality of his loss over and over again.  We became friends, we shared stories.  We laughed.  We realized how deep and beautiful dance is.  So last night, I realized the loss of all of this.  Losing my students, the ones I love, and pour into.  Losing the space-the wood floors and mirrors.  It hurts.
And it feels like this is only the beginning of the loss of moving.  I've been living in LA for 8 yrs.  I grew up here.  I found God.  Fell in love-with music, dance, change, and a few choice people along the way.  I had roomates.  Lived in an alligator green room.  Spent countless nights walking the circle with random friends.  Discovered little gems of LA.   I turned 21, went to college, got a degree.  Fell in love.  Said yes.  Got a dog. Met friends who changed my perspective.  Traveled the world, but always came home to LA.
So in the next few weeks, I'll be taking the time to reflect.  Remember, glean the memories and write some of them here...as a reminder of the life I've lived here.
